How to Handle a Broken Phone Without Making It Worse

You just dropped your phone. Screen is cracked or the display went dark. What you do in the next 15 minutes matters more than people realize — here's how to keep a bad situation from becoming a worse one.

DO

Pick it up carefully — don't apply pressure to the cracked glass area
Check if it still powers on and back up immediately if it does
Put a strip of clear tape over the crack to prevent glass shards from lifting
Store it flat in a zip-lock bag if there's any chance of moisture
Keep it powered on if possible — powering off and on can sometimes trigger LCD bleed to spread faster

DON'T

Press on the cracked screen — pressure spreads LCD bleed
Leave it in a hot car (heat worsens LCD and battery damage)
Keep using it for weeks with bad LCD bleed — it gets worse and repairs get harder
Try to peel glass fragments off — use tape instead
Put it in rice if water damage occurred (doesn't work, delays real treatment)
